Fairford’s champion swimmer has heart set on the Paris Olympics
Champion swimmer, Alex Cohoon from Fairford, is continuing with his successful swimming career despite now being a full time student at Loughborough University.

Alex (19) is studying a three year BSc (Hons) degree in Sport and Exercise Therapy. He started swimming for Loughborough University at the beginning of September this year and has already made a name for himself as ‘the one to watch’!
His first competition for Loughborough Uni was the Masters National Championships at Sheffield in October when Alex achieved gold medals in all five of his relay races, broke three Masters’ records and also won gold medals for all his individual swims.
Carrying on from his success at the Masters, Alex’s next big competition was the BUCS (British Universities and College Sports) event in November – once again in Sheffield – where Alex swam in relays and individual races representing Loughborough University. Loughborough was the overall competition winner.
Earlier this month, Alex took part in the Winter British Nationals Short Course Championships held over three days at Sheffield with over 1600 swimmers competing. The champion swimmer had four individual races and reached the finals in three of them. In the 50m Freestyle event, Alex came third with a time of 22.50 seconds winning a bronze medal and was beaten to gold and silver only by two Olympic swimmers.
Alex, who regularly trains for up to 16 hours per week, is working towards his dream of representing his country at the 2024 Paris Olympics and his coaches are spurring him on to get good qualifying times as an individual or as part of the relay team for the Commonwealth Games in August 2022 in Birmingham and the Olympic trials in London in 2022.
The cost of travelling to events, his accommodation whilst there and entry fees is expensive and Alex would be extremely grateful if any business, organisation or individual would like to sponsor him. Alex would like to thank his 2019 sponsor, The Lakes by yoo (the 850 acre estate between Fairford and Lechlade), for all their help and support.

If you can help or if you know someone who could help with sponsorship for Alex, please contact Chris Roberts on 01285 712150, 0744 350 0744 or email chrisrobertsmbe@gmail.com.
