New Lakeside Cabin at luxury development wins International Architectural Award
The Lakes by YOO – the 850-acre private rural estate located between Fairford and Lechlade – is famous for its luxury second homes nestling in the heart of the Cotswolds. Now, one of those homes – the new Lakeside Cabin – has won the Residential Architectural Property 2021 award in The International Design & Architecture Awards competition.

For over 12 years, The International Design & Architecture Awards have supported the global interior design and architecture industry and have brought together an elite group of companies that are regarded as ‘the pinnacle of recognition with the industry’.
The Awards, which are hosted by design et al, are not judged by a panel, but receive votes online. Only 16 projects per category are selected for the shortlist.
The stunning, tranquil location of the luxurious Lakeside Cabins appealed to the voters because of its unique design, the views over Marley Lake, its dedicated split-level waterside deck where you can moor your rowing boat or canoe and its proximity to the spa, restaurant and children’s play area.

The nine new bespoke cabins are an innovative hybrid model for The Lakes offering a smaller home for either purchase or rent. They feature two-beds, two-baths, have a double-height open plan living and dining space with a nine metre glazed frontage and retractable doors leading out on to the deck and are fully furnished with interiors designed by YOO Studio.

Design features of The Lakes by YOO Lakeside Cabins:
- The Cabins feature natural materials bringing in the outdoors through the use of Cotswold stone, tonal timbers and statement pendant lighting which are hand woven in willow by local craftsmen. Beds and mattresses are handmade in Devon using natural fibres and without any chemical additives.

- The show cabin has been decorated using a rich and earthy colour palette of burnt reds, chocolates and ochres. Layers of natural texture give rustic flair to this lakeside dwelling. Furnishings include deep velvet armchairs, eclectic artwork and vintage finds and a bespoke crafted dining table and chairs. The picture window frontage floods the room with natural light creating a warm and cosy environment.
- The bedroom features a luxurious four poster bed and benefits from views into the cabin’s private garden. A separate mezzanine floor, which acts as a twin or double room, also features a secret den for kids underneath the gables and a stunning view across the living space and out to the lake.
- The split-level decking provides an amazing entertaining space to enjoy long summer evenings by the lake. It also provides easy access to enjoy a paddle around Marley Lake.
Founder of YOO, John Hitchcox said: “We are thrilled at YOO that these innovative Lakeside Cabins have been recognised by industry professionals, clients and customers. We are especially proud of the Cabins’ eco-friendly construction and materials making these cabins among the most sustainably created.”
The Lakes by YOO estate offers an expanse of lakes, meadows and woodlands, retaining a wilderness feel while featuring everything from fishing and boating to tennis and basketball. With a wide range of other activities including zip-wiring, bushcraft and climbing wall, families can sit back and relax as the kids are entertained.
Adults can utilise the concierge service for the perfect summer experience including cocktail mixology, a private chef for the property or a spa treatment at the Lakes spa facilities, including a private indoor spa and swimming pool, with sauna, steam room and gym, exclusively for residents and rental guests.
