Cirencester’s Ella Gibson is selected for Team GB at the World Games 2022

Following on from her amazing success in the European Indoor Archery Championships in February this year when she scooped the first gold medal ever won by a GB compound archer in the competition, Ella Gibson (21) has now been selected as one of only five competitors for team GB in The World Games Archery Championship.

The World Games is equivalent to the Olympics but for sports people who compete in non-Olympic sports, but is organised with the support of the International Olympic Committee.

Always held the year following the summer Olympic Games, The World Games is an 11-day international multi-sport event that will be held during the first week of July in Alabama, USA. It expects to host nearly 4,000 elite athletes from over 100 countries competing for gold in 34 of the fastest growing sports in the world.

Ella, who is elated to be honoured to represent her country again, said: “Compound archery is not yet classed as an Olympic sport, but is currently one of the fastest growing sports in the world. I am thrilled to be the only female compound archer to be selected for The World Games.”

The GB World Games team is made up of five athletes representing all three bow types for archery – a male and female athlete for Barebow; a male and female athlete for Recurve and just Ella for Compound Archery.
