The Crown at Enstone

Who doesn’t love eating out – either for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a snack?
I feel immensely privileged to have been asked to many restaurants, cafés, pubs, hotels and spas in the Cotswolds to have a meal and then write a review about the food and venue afterwards.
So recently, I drove over to Enstone near the celebrity-haunt of Chipping Norton and home of Alpine F1 Team. As a massive F1 fan, I was hoping to see a leading light from Alpine at The Crown Inn, Church Enstone, but I think they were all in Qatar ahead of the penultimate grand prix race of 2025.
The Cotswold-stone venue welcomes locals and visitors through an arched porch into a beamed reception area that leads to an exposed-stone bar and cosy dining room with extra dining space in a bright conservatory beyond.
Head Chef, Jason Christie focuses on biodiversity, provenance and slow food creating British dishes with clever twists using local produce and bold flavours.
On offer for fish lovers is a Fish Smorgasbord with Pickled Mussels, Gravadlax, Devilled Egg, Roll Mop and Rye Crispy Bread; Crab Tart or Pan-Seared Cod with New Potatoes, Spinach and Caper Beurre Noisette.
Meat and game lovers will love the Enstone Pork Stew, Prunes and Polenta; Roasted Crown of Partridge with Smoked Iberico Black Pudding and Puy Lentils or a selection of steaks, which are butchered on site.
Top of the list for desserts is Jason Christie’s speciality – a chocolate mousse served by him at the table from a huge soup tureen! The delicious Bread and Butter Pudding with Bay Leaf Ice Cream is also worth a mention – light and fruity and not at all stodgy!
Cutting to the chase though, I can thoroughly recommend a meal at The Crown Inn Enstone so take a look at their sample men and how to get there on www.crowninnenstone.co.uk/
