Fairford swimmer breaks 23 year record

Tom Cohoon

Last weekend, Tom Cohoon, who has recently come out of swimming retirement after seven years away, broke a swimming record that had not been broken for 23 years!

Tom was swimming in the long course 50m freestyle in the Gloucester County Championships at the Hengrove Park Leisure Centre, Bristol and completed the course in 22.8 seconds. The last time the record was broken was when 27-year-old Tom was just four years old.

Tom, who lives in Fairford and swims with Cirencester Swimming Club is now currently placed 19th in the UK. If he had swum just 0.2 seconds faster, he would have been ranked 10th in the UK. That is an amazing achievement for someone who has no coach and does just one day a week training!

Tom is the older brother of Olympic swimming star, Alex Cohoon, who debuted at the Paris Olympics in 2024.
