Fairford brothers set their sights on Commonwealth Games

Olympic swimmer, Alex Cohoon is facing new competition!
The challenge 23-year-old Alex is currently facing is from his own brother, Tom (27), who has come out of retirement after seven years away from the water.
Tom made his debut come-back at the end of October 2025 at the GoCardless Swim England Masters National Championships at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, Sheffield.
The event, which is the highlight of the Masters’ short course calendar, featured swimmers aged 18 and over from around the country and is a great event if you’re new to Masters swimming or returning to the sport.
Tom Cohoon found exactly that! Despite having no coach and training for only one hour each week in local pools, Tom was thrilled to come away with a Bronze medal in the 100m freestyle; a Silver in the 50m breast-stroke and a Gold in the 50m freestyle.

Now the Fairford brothers both have their sights set on the Commonwealth Games, which are being held this summer in Glasgow, and will feature 3,000 athletes from 74 nations.
More recently, Alex and Tom took part in the 2025 Swim England National Winter Championships in December, where Alex took second place with a time of 21.3 seconds in the 50m freestyle final and Tom followed closely behind in sixth place with a time of 21.9 seconds.

The next big event for the brothers is the Aquatics GB Swimming Championships being held in April at the London Aquatics Centre (Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park). Alex will be concentrating on doing well in the 100m freestyle race, whilst Tom hopes to succeed in the 50m freestyle. These Championships comprise a six-day programme with national swimming and para-swimming events and is the key selection meet to earn a place in the Commonwealth Games.
